A Deputy National Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Edem Agbana has called on Members of Parliament (MPs) to approve a private member’s motion seeking to suspend the payment of fees by students in tertiary institutions in Ghana.
The maverick youth activist and former student leader believes the arguments raised by the Member of Parliament for the Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, are potent and in the best interest of the thousands of students and parents who are struggling to pay fees due to the adverse impact of COVID-19 on their businesses.
Speaking to myxyzonline.com , Edem Agbana expressed utter shock at the attempts by some NPP MPs to shoot down what he described as a “noble motion meant to lessen the burden on parents and also provide an opportunity for students from deprived homes”.
He expressed confidence that the 137 MPs from the NDC caucus to stand by the students and approve the motion for the scrapping or absorbing of fees for tertiary institutions.
