Akufo-Addo would go after anyone who tries to expose his corrupt Akyem Cabal – Sewoekpor

The Communication Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Awutu Senya East Constituency in the Central Region has lashed out at the Akufo-Addo adminstration over the numerous corrupt scandals that have rocked the government.

Delali Sewoekpor believes the government led by President Akufo-Addo has normalized corruption aside cronyism that has put the NPP administration under bad light.

Reacting to the resignation of Martin Amidu as a Special Prosecutor on Pan African TV, the vociferous NDC man indicated that Akufo-Addo frustrated the work of Amidu because of the corrupt acts of his kinsmen in government, describing them as “Akyem Cabal.”

Amidu’s resignation comes weeks after he made public a corruption risk assessment report on the controversial Agyapa Royalties Agreement.

The deal, which had been kicked against by the Minority in Parliament and several civil society organizations, had two of Akufo-Addo’s cousins – Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Ata and private legal practitioner Gabby Asare-Otchere Darko– benefitting from it financially.

Amidu in his resignation letter accused President Akufo-Addo on interfering with his work.

He said the President wanted him to smuggle in an opinion of Ofori-Ata into the Agyapa report to cover up the corruption related to the duo.

Amidu’s resignation has exposed Akufo-Addo’s corruption fight as only a lip service lacking will, especially as anti corruption crusaders keep expressing their disappointment in the President.

To Sewoekpor, the events leading to Amidu’s resignation shows Akufo-Addo is only interested in shielding his kinsmen and friends in government who would engage in corruption.

“Anybody who makes an attempt to expose corruption that’s perpetrated by the people we call the Akyem Cabal, President Nana Akufo-Addo will come after you,” Sewoekpor said.

He said President Akufo-Addo forcing the Auditor-General Daniel Domelovo to go on his accumulated leave after exposing Senior Minister Yaw Osafo Maafo, another Akyem man in government, in a corrupt deal shows the President adores corruption.

He went on and urged Ghanaians to vote against Nana Akufo-Addo in the upcoming December polls for failing to fight corruption as he promised in the run up to the 2016 elections.

To him, the NDC presidential candidate, former president John Mahama stands tall in combating graft as compared to Akufo-Addo, adding that Mr Mahama investigated and jailed his own appointee over corruption and fired others who planned being corrupt.
