The Chief Crusader of the Crusaders Against Corruption, Mr. Emmanuel Wilson Jnr has allegedly been threatened by an unknown person, a day after he criticised the Akufo-Addo government.
On Friday, February 11, 2022, the anti-corruption campaigner who was a panel member on Dwaboase on TV XYZ chastised the government for unnecessary spending at the presidency.
Speaking against the implementation of the controversial E-levy, Wilson Jnr observed that the amount spent on transporting the president’s chair in a V8 to functions across the country can be saved to embark on development projects.
He noted that the transportation of President Akufo-Addo’s mobile chair to functions across the country costs the Ghanaian taxpayer about GHS 120 million.
He said the “unnecessary expenditure” of the NPP government, especially at the presidency could be avoided to make savings as an alternative to raising about GHS 6.9 billion from E-levy which is being fiercely resisted by the Minority in Parliament.
“V8 [vehicle] travels 200 kilometers per hour and uses an average of GHS 1000 on fuel. If the president travels an average of 50 times a month. When you multiply the 50 by the GHS1000 and multiply that by the 200 Kilometres and then multiply that by 12 which is the number of months in a year. You’ll arrive at GHS 120 million,” he stated
However, on Saturday, Wilson got threats from a phone call. The person on the other side of the call asked him not to move around alone.
“I got a call on Saturday morning around 8:45am – 9:00am but right after, the person’s call log couldn’t be found on my phone.,” he narrated. “The call came as an unknown number.”
The person, he recalled, mentioned his name “and said to me that if I love my life, I should not be walking alone.”
“The voice sounded like a man but it was more of an undertone voice (as in the person was hiding to talk to me or something),” Wilson Jnr added.
It is not clear whether the Chief Crusader has reported the matter to the police yet.
