FIFA reacts to SAFA over Ghana ‘match-fixing’ claim

FIFA has confirmed receiving a protest letter from South Africa Football Association (SAFA).

SAFA wrote to FIFA claiming corruption, match fixing and match manipulation in the QATAR 2022 FIFA World Cup CAF Qualifiers match between South Africa & Ghana on Sunday 4th November, 2022.

The match ended 1-0 in favor of Ghana after Daniel Amartey was pulled down in the penalty area which triggered a penalty sanctioned by referee Maguette against Rushine De Reuk.

The penalty was neatly converted by the Captain, André Dede Ayew, in the 33rd minutes securing Ghana a win.

SAFA have held a press conference where its president Danny Jordaan, Coach Hugo Broos, Captain & Goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, and Ethan Brooks claimed the match was manipulated.

FIFA has since requested Ghana Football Association(GFA) to respond by 20th November, 2021
