Floods cut off two major districts in two regions, North East, Upper East

Major roads linking two adjoining districts in two regions, North East and Upper East have been inundated by floods cutting them off completely.

Reports say the bridge across the White Volta that connects the main route from Mamprugu Moaduri District to Walewale in the West Mamprusi Municipality, at Kpasenkpe, has been inaccessible over the past week.

Witnesses say large sections of the highway, which is the shortest access have been submerged.

Motorists are now compelled to spend extra four hours on the road through Bolgatanga-Navrongo highway which is currently the alternative route safe enough for commuters.

“We spend on the average 2hours by road through the Kpasenkpe bridge but now was are forced to go round Navrongo which takes almost six hours. This is too bad” …a driver lamented.

Commercial motor cyclists who have become a dependable source of transport for those ready to risk their lives on water are charged as much as Ghc30.00 to be ferried by canoe from and to any side of the bridge for them to continue their journey.

Aside the transportation challenged, several farmlands along the White Volta and Black Volta tributaries in the North East Region have also been submerged.

NADMO is currently assessing the situation and offer the appropriate support services to those affected.
