3 Operation Vanguard Soldiers Arrested For Extortion

Three military personnel of government’s anti-illegal mining taskforce, the Operation Vanguard are in the grips of the Wassa Akropong District Police for their alleged involvement in illegal operations while on duty.

According to the police, the soldiers numbering three with some alleged accomplices  seized a “gold concentrate popularly called black” from some illegal miners at Wassa Atieku in the Amenfi East District.

The three who have been identified as Lance Corporal Boateng Shradrack, Lance Corporal Obeng Seth and Lance Corporal Paul Nkuah Attah together with some four uniformed men on Wednesday, 30th May 2018 visited the illegal mining site in a a Toyota Hilux pick up with registration number GC 7920- 12 and seized the gold.

Police say after the victim reported the matter, a surveillance was mounted on the group of military men and arrested and arrested them.

“Items found were 3 SM rifles with 52 life cartridges, 4 mobile phones, 3 sets of Military uniforms and a set of Police uniform,” police said.
