The Legon Police and the East Legon Police have jointly picked up ten (10) students from the University of Ghana in connection with a clash that injured one on Monday.
The clash involving members of University of Ghana’s Commonwealth Hall, and their colleagues from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology’s Katanga Hall, occurred ahead of an inter-hall debate between the two halls scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana (UG).
One of the students with Radio Univers, Caleb Ahinakwah, who spoke to Power FM News explained that while the event was about commencing, some members of Commonwealth Hall began shouting after seeing a video that one of their colleagues was being manhandled at the Mensah Sarbah hall.
“Upon reaching there to rescue their member from the Katanga guys, it resulted in a clash,” he added.
He said the incident which happened between 4 and 5PM would have been bloody if the Legon Police had arrived on time.
Caleb said at the time of filing his report, some police officials were seen around to ensure sanity prevails on campus.
Police is still on a manhunt for other suspects, but the university authorities are yet to respond to the attacks.
The arrested students are in police custody at the Legon Command and the East Legon police Command.
