Ghanaian highlife artist Ofori Amponsah has urged fellow Ghanaians to redirect their focus from commemorating the deceased to celebrating the living.
Speaking on the Onua Showtime show with Nana Ama Mcbrown, he emphasized the importance of extending support and assistance to others during their lifetime instead of waiting until after their passing.
Expressing his personal perspective, Ofori Amponsah revealed his aversion to attending funerals and stressed his belief in celebrating the living. He questioned the behavior of individuals who withhold assistance during someone’s life but suddenly contribute large sums of money for their funeral expenses. He emphasized the need to offer a helping hand and demonstrate kindness to others in the present moment.
Ofori Amponsah encouraged a culture of celebrating and supporting one another while still alive, emphasizing the significance of appreciating and assisting individuals during their lifetime. In a society where mourning and paying tribute to the departed is common, his statement serves as a reminder to reevaluate our practices of appreciation and honor.
Rather than waiting until someone’s passing to recognize their value, he advocates for expressing gratitude and celebration for their contributions, regardless of their scale, while they are still with us.
By shifting our mindset, we can foster a culture of gratitude and recognition for the people around us, appreciating their presence and acknowledging their impact before it’s too late.
