Ghana’s COVID-19 cases hit new high after Christmas celebrations

Ghana’s COVID-19 cases have soared at a faster pace from the Christmas eve, with death toll rising steadily.

The country’s fast rising numbers include Omicron cases which were recorded fee weeks ago.

Currently, some 1,074 new cases of COVID-19 have been recorded, while some health experts blame the situation of the several musical concerts held in the national capital, Accra, during Christmas.

The total number of active cases have quadrupled to 9,534 in the past week.

The death toll stands at 1,287.

Of the active cases, two are in critical condition while 18 are severe.

Since mid-March 2020, Ghana has recorded a total of 141,295 cases.

Out of that number, 130,474 have recovered.

Meanwhile, the Health Service has intensified its vaccination drive.

So far, a total of 8,458,155 vaccine doses have been administered.
