Hard work, dedication made Ghana qualify for 2006 World Cup not money –Fred Pappoe

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Fred Pappoe says the senior national team– Black Stars– qualified for the World Cup tournament in 2006 due to their dedication and hard work and not money.

The former Accra Great Olympics Director made this known on X Sports on TV XYZ hosted by Nana Prempeh (British Man).

When asked most Ghanaians believe Ghana qualified for the World Cup because the John Kufuor-led  government put in money, Pappoe denied the allegations and added that if people say that, they reduce the value of the sacrifice the team put up.

“you see that money issues I find it a bit unfortunate. You see when we start saying that we reduce the value of sacrifice people put into it.. it was as if everything was for money, ” he argued.

According to him the per diem and bonuses given the squad were not that much and befitting.

“But the interesting thing is that the bonus and the per diem were increased without the players or anybody asking for it” he added.

“One day we were at training at the Accra sports stadium… I think preparing for one of the matches and after the training, the minister decided to encourage the trainers and things like that and just informed them that the President had just decided to increase per diem and bonuses and whatever it is”.

X Sports is a sports personality profile programme shown on TV XYZ every Friday 7 to 8PM.
