In a 20-hour surgery at Mulago National Referral Hospital in the capital Kampala, specialists in Uganda split conjoined twins.
On Tuesday, Minister of Health Ruth Aceng said the operation on Monday demonstrated the determination, hard work, and effort of the team of specialists.
Specialists in Uganda continue to exhibit excellence in specialized health care, said Diana Atwine, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Health.
John Mark Mayanja Kasumba, Senior Anesthesiology Consultant, Mulago Hospital, said the twins are doing well with Stella and Doris.
“At this point in time, both twins are doing well, we track them around the clock,” Kasumba said, describing the separation procedure as ground-breaking and the first in the world of its kind.
Mulago National Referral Hospital Deputy Head Rosemary Byanyima advised pregnant women to attend all four antenatal care visits to detect any risks early.
