I Gave My Song To Abeiku Santana But He Never Played – Grace Ashy

Grace Ashy, one of Ghana’s favorite Gospel legends, born Grace Appiah Kubi has recounted how renowned broadcaster, Abeiku Santana disappointed her when she was emerging as an artiste.

Grace Ashy which was a household name started music as a vibrant young lady in the early 2000s where she released her first single dubbed  ‘Adea Yesu’.

According to the ‘I Am In Your Presence’ hitmaker, she gave her song to Abeiku Santana to play but he never did.

“I gave the song to Abeiku Santana, but he didn’t play it”. I was frustrated and disappointed in the presenter, but was motivated to invest some time and resources in her craft to prove such personalities wrong”, she said.

Speaking on how her music career began on Legends Show on Tv XYZ with Agyemang Prempeh, the veteran singer said “I started singing in church when I moved to stay with my grandmother. When I came to Accra, I started a church with Rev. Michael Osei Bonsu in Adenta but started going to Gospel Light with my late husband, where I was the lead singer. Through this, I started writing music. I released my debut single, ‘Adea Yesu’ in the year 2000”.

Nevertheless, the veteran Gospel singer also revealed that she had nothing from the GFA after all her association with them. “His Excellency J. A. Kuffuor, then President of Ghana told the GFA board to take good care of me but they didn’t heed to it. They don’t have any excuses to treat me with disregard because they had sponsorship for their events”, the celebrated singer added.

She disclosed that henceforth, she’ll have to be contracted before doing another song for Black Stars when she is approached. Also, she has always been a fan of football and sports in general and she supports Ghanaian Football Club, Aduana Stars.
