I haven’t demanded anything from Akufo-Addo to jel with him – Mahama clarifies

The office of former president John Dramani Mahama has stated that the 2020 flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has not made any demand from President Nana Akufo-Addo as precondition for him to cooperate with the sitting president.

This comes after pro-NPP newspaper, Daily Guide, published a report in its Wednesday April 08, 2021 edition  that suggested that Mr Mahama is demanding that a bauxite concession be returned to his brother Ibrahim Mahama before he jels with President  Akufo-Addo.

However, a statement signed by former Deputy Communication Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu described the published article as “nothing but a figment of the imagination of the editor and his so-called sources.”

“President Mahama in the aftermath of the Supreme Court judgment on his petition indicated that even though he disagrees with the Court, he was nonetheless bound by the verdict,” he added and quizzed, “What form of ‘gel’ does the government want with President Mahama, and for which reason, he will even consider making any demands?”

The statement stressed that former president Mahama “has remained the statesman that he is and has remained true to his commitments to multiparty democracy. ”

The former minister stated, “He [Mr Mahama] continues to have respect for the constitutional structures and has at no time made any request, nor suggested any conditions, let alone ask for the return of bauxite concessions by any person or entity as precondition for cooperation with the President.”
