The Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Murtala Mohammed has criticised the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, for superintending over a sitting that approved the 2022 Budget and economic policy.
The Majority side voted to approve the budget that had already been rejected by the NDC side last Friday.
The Minority Leader has described the sitting as unconstitutional, the decision by their Majority counterparts to approve the budget in their absence.
Reacting to the issue that has taken over the airwaves on Tonton Sansan, Mr. Mohammed said Mr. Osei-Owusu also known as Joe wise should not have counted himself among the MPs present.
“The First Deputy Speaker was not there as an MP. He was not sitting there as a member of Parliament but rather as a speaker representing Ghanaians,” the former minister noted.
He said the standing orders barred Osei-Owusu from identifying himself with any side while chairing proceedings.
“When you’re there as a speaker, you lose the right to vote,” he added and argued that the act was unlawful.
