Former Chief of Staff Mr Julius Debrah was on Saturday awarded at the maiden edition of the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours, held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, Accra.
One unique aspect of the Ghana Ministers of State Excellence Honours was to acknowledge young achievers, who continue to inspire the youth and especially the younger generation taking over from the old and experienced politicians.
Among them is former Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah.
Director of News at XYZ Boradcasting, Eric Ahianyo received the award on Mr Debrah’s behalf.
Mr Debrah was recognized for his sterling performance as Chief Executive of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Eastern Regional Minister, Greater Accra Regional Minister and Local Government Minister before occupying the high office as Ghana’s youngest Chief of Staff.
In all 15 former Ministers some of who served in different capacities and long years as MPs were honoured.
Key among them were Kwamena Bartels, Hackman Owusu Agyemang, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor, Professor Joshua Alabi, former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye.
The others were Majority leader Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu; Dr Kwabena Duffuor, a former Finance Minister and Governor of the Central Bank under whose ternure the financial sector saw several reforms; Trade Minister, Allan Kwadwo Kyeremanten and Dr Ekow Spio Garbrah.
Other young, high performing politicians honoured were former Education Minister, Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, former MP and Tourism Minister, Catherine Afeku, Managing Director of STC, Nana Akomeah and MP for Ellembelle and former Energy Minister, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah.
The event which attracted high profile dignitaries including traditional leaders, former appointees who have distinguished themselves in serving the state was spiced with performances by some of Ghana’s finest musicians.
