Madilo blames #FixTheCountry uproar on Bawumia’s ‘lies’

A member of the national communication team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has blamed the #FixTheCountry social media protest on the “lies” of Vice President Dr Mahamadu Bawumia prior to the 2016 elections.

The group, that began a strong social media campaign – #FixTheCountry on twitter and Facebook over the weekend due to what they describe as untold hardship in the country, had written to the police for protection for their demonstration slated for Sunday, May 9, 2021, but the police said it could not shepherd them.

The Police subsequently headed to court to stop the march, saying that was to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

On Thursday evening, the Greater Accra Police Command announced that it had secured a restraining order from an Accra High Court to stop a planned protest dubbed #FixTheCountry.

The restraining order follows an affidavit filed by the police against the conveners of the demonstration pursuant to Section 1 (6) of the Public Order Act, 1994 (Act 491).

But Madilo who was speaking on Morning Update said the seeming anger among the over 40,000 youth and its rippling effect must be blamed on Dr Bawumia whom he said had  churned out continuous lies toGhanaians that raised the hopes of the youth.

He said today, the youth who were promised jobs and a robust economy to cushion their businesses had been overburdened by nuisance taxes slapped on them by the Akufo-Addo government.
