Martin ABK Amidu has resigned from office as Special Prosecutor.
Mr Amidu in his resignation letter to President Akufo-Addo said his independence was not assured despite a pledge from the President to “respect” his office and not control it.
“The one condition upon which I accepted to be nominated as the Special Prosecutor when you invited me to your Office on 10th January 2018 was your firm promise to me that you will respect and ensure same by your Government for my independence and freedom of action as the Special Prosecutor,” he stated.
Amidu said his resignation will enable President Akufo-Addo to “appoint a replacement to that position as required by law.”
Amidu, a former Attorney General under the erstwhile NDC government, was appointed to the office in 2018.
He has been heavily criticised by many Ghanaians that he has not delivered to expectation.
