Their win over the Red Fury of Spain yesterday, 6th December, 2022 at the Education City Stadium in the Qatar makes Morocco the fourth African country to reach that stage in the history of FIFA World Cup.
The torrid game end in a goal less draw after the 120 minutes of playing time and headed to a penalty shoot out where Morocco won 3:0 over Spain which qualified them to the quarter finals of the tournament.
Cameroon in 1990 was the first African team to reach the quarterfinals which was a dream come through for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.
They defeated Colombia 2–1 and advanced to the quarterfinals, where England won the match 3–2 in an extra time to eliminate the Cameroonians.
Since then only two African teams have managed to reach the quarter finals– Senegal in 2002 and Ghana in 2010.
Now the Atlas Lions of Morocco has also joined, becoming the fourth African country to reach the quarter finals in the FIFA World Cup.
