Chairman of the Appointments Committee of Parliament, Joseph Osei-Owusu, says Chief Justice Nominee, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo, will not undergo a second vetting.
This follows the Minority MPs’ demand for another chance to scrutinize the Supreme Court judgment that resulted in the expulsion of James Gyakye Quayson from Parliament.
The Minority MPs argued that without access to the written reasons behind the court’s decision, they were unable to question the Chief Justice nominee adequately but the Chairman of the committee has declined.
After a rigorous vetting session in Parliament on Friday, May 26, the Committee’s meeting held afterwards ended inconclusively, with no consensus reached on recommending the nominee for approval by the House.
Meanwhile the Minority has said they will not approve Justice Torkornoo.
