Ofori-Atta presents 2022 budget

Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has arrived in Parliament today, Wednesday, 17 November 2021, to present the government’s budget statement and economic policy for the year 2022.

The presentation of the budget statement is in accordance with Article 179 of the 1992 Constitution.

The budget is expected to address issues including unemployment, support for entrepreneurship programmes and petroleum prices among others.

Stakeholders and the business community presented their expectations of the 2022 budget to the government ahead of today’s presentation.

For instance, drivers are calling for a reduction in fuel prices while the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has cautioned against the scrapping of a 50% benchmark at the country’s ports.

The budget was initially scheduled to be presented on Monday, 15 November 2021.

However, parliament was engaged in equally important assignments, thus, the change in date for the presentation.

Today’s budget statement will be the sixth under the Akufo-Addo-led government.
