Vociferous broadcaster and host of Asempa Yetia show on Power 97.9 FM, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, has urged Ghanaians to rally against the introduction of the E-levy until the Akufo-Addo government chases some over GHS 12 billion the country lost to corruption and financial irregularities.
“Let’s tell President Akufo-Addo that to whom much is given, much is expected,” he stated on his radio programme Wednesday night.
He said although Akufo-Addo vigorously campaigned against corruption in the 2016 electioneering, he has done worse than his predecessor, John Mahama.
“Under the governance of John Mahama you tagged as corrupt and reckless, financial irregularities that was contained in the Auditor General’s report was GHS 246 million.”
“Under Akufo-Addo’s care, financial irregularities moved to the tune of 12 billion cedis in 2017, ” he stated ” In 2019, it was 5.4 billion.”
Okatakyie also noted that the 2020 Auditor General’s report calculated the financial irregularities as over GHS12.6, arguing that the amount could solve most of the country’s challenges.
“You have to chase that money else nobody will give you a dime as E-levy,” he assured.
E-levy which will be that tax on electronic transactions is expected to give the government about GHS 7 billion each year.
“Akufo-Addo is the most reckless leader in the history of Ghana,” Okatakyie jabbed as he charged the government not chase such a “small money” with verve whereas there are stolen funds to be refunded by some influential people in the NPP.
The TV host who is a key member of the pressure group– Fix The Country–has vowed to revive massive demonstrations against the government.
