Over 15 passengers burnt to death in accident on Takoradi-Cape Coast highway

At least 15 persons have been burnt to death in an accident on the Takoradi- Cape Coast highway Tuesday afternoon.

The incident happened at Asem Asa Number 1 in the shama District in the Western Region around 2:00 pm.

The accident involved a tipper truck and a Ford bus with registration number GW 5628-21, which had onboard, some Ghanaians and Chinese nationals travelling from Tarkwa to Accra.

Eyewitnesses disclosed that the tipper truck did a wrongful overtaking, but upon realising the danger ahead, the driver of the Ford vehicle stopped to make way for the truck.

But the truck’s driver who had lost control of his vehicle after one of the tyres had burst during the process run into the Ford and caught fire.

The Western Regional Police MTTD Commander, Chief Superintendent, Isaac K Sorkpah, who confirmed the accident and casualties has urged persons whose relatives travelled on Tuesday from Tarkwa to Accra and have not arrived at their destinations to contact the Tarkwa station.

According to him, it will aid in identifying passengers who boarded the Ford vehicle.

Chief Superintendent Sorkpah who spoke to Citi News said “at the moment we have been able to estsblish the identity of the ford bus, which is GW 6628-21. We urge persons whose relatives travelled between the two towns to contact the Tarkwa police station and be very sure which of the buses their relatives boarded.”
