Police drops criminal charges against Alhaji Sinare

The police has withdrawn a criminal case against Alhaji Said Sinare, a National Vice-Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Mr Sinare, a former Ghana Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, was in court to after a complaint was filed against him for  allegedly supplying guns to some youth in his party to cause chaos during the upcoming December 7 polls.

At the Kaneshie District Court presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye, today, the prosecutor, Seargent Thomas Safo, said the prosecution is withdrawing the case upon “further development in the matter”.

The judge accepted the request and discharged Mr Sinare, who had been charged with conspiracy to commit crime and possession of firearms without lawful authority.

The plaintiff in the matter, Mr Tahiru Ahmed, a constituency chairman for the NDC at the Ayawaso North Constituency, is alleged to have said Alhaji Sinare wanted him to cause mayhem with the arms.

Although admitted ownership of one of the guns at the centre of the allegation against him but told the police  that the gun , a pump action gun, was missing and he has already reported the case at the Cantonments Police Station in Accra, stressing that  he has an extract from the police to that effect.

With respect to a second gun, an AK-47, he denied knowledge about that gun and that it does not belong to him.

Mr Abraham Amaliba, one of the lawyers of Alhaji Said Sinare and a Director of Legal Affairs of the opposition NDC disclosed this to  journalists at the premises of the Accra Regional Police Command where Alhaji Sinare had been invited to answer questions in relation to the guns on Thursday morning.

Earlier, Mr Sinare in a statement had accused his former business partner – the plaintiff-  of ” mischievously” crafting  the allegations to cause dissafection against him.

He believes the NDC chairman is being used by some elements of the  ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to humiliate him and put the NDC under a bad light.
