Police have arrested seven persons in connection with a shooting incident at Nima in Accra on Tuesday.
Several were injured after some rival groups clashed yesterday, shooting indiscriminately at Nima.
According to the Acting Director-General of the Public Affairs Department of the Ghana Police Service, ACP Kwesi Ofori, who addressed the press Wednesday morning, two of the seven are on admission under security guard.
“Nima, a suburb of Accra witnessed gangsterism and mass violence around 3:30pm and the police quickly and immediately intervened”, ACP Kwesi Ofori stated and added that calm has returned to the area.
“Five [of the suspects] are presently here with us,” Mr Ofori added while assuring that the Police will pursue the criminals and increase police visibility at Nima to ” protect lives and properties.”
Meanwhile one person who was shot at a spot called ‘the gutter’ during the clash is receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital.
Residents have, however, appealed to the police to keep an eye on the area because such clashes frequently happen.
