Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has said fisher folks in the Greater Accra Region will not renew the mandate of President Akufo-Addo in the upcoming elections due to the government’s failure to improve their lives.
The NDC MP said the Akufo-Addo administration has failed to deal with corrupt officers in the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture which has negatively affected the lives pf fishermen in the coastal region of the country.
Speaking to Kwame Minkah on Dwaboase on Power FM, Mr George said fishermen’s lives have been worse off under the leadesrhip of Akufo-Addo than they were during the Mahama regime.
“Fishermen are crying because today they can’t buy outboard motors and premix fuel. Outboard motors were subsidized for fishermen during the Mahama administration. They paid only GHS 6,000 for one while the government paid GHS 6,000 for them. Today, they can’t buy the outboard motors,” Mr George narrated.
He said the government was now selling the outboard motors to fisherfolks at the cost of GHS 15,000 or more while premix fuel were being distributed by NPP executives unlike under the NDC where they managed the sale premix fuel.
“The outboard motors are being given to their cronies and they sell to farmers between GHS 15,000 and GHS 19,000,” he lamented and blamed the sector Minister Madam Afoley Quaye for the rot in the ministry.
To Sam George, the fishermen will vote for change because their businesses are being collapsed by the government’s corrupt activities.
“This elections, our fishermen will shock President Akufo-Addo and Afoley Quaye,” he said and rallied Ghanaians to vote John Mahama for President.
He said the fishermen will control the sale of premix fuel and the prices of outboard motors would be reduced when the NDC returns to office.
