The head of sports for XYZ Broadcasting, Nana Prempeh (The Britishman) believes the dismissal of Blackstars head coach C.K Akunnor is not the only solution to solving the problems affecting the national team.
According to him, the Black Stars squad does not have enough quality players and cohesion hence there must be a holistic approach to rebuilding the team with a new technical path and philosophy.
“It’s about time we all come to understand that our current team does not have enough quality…Countries like England and Germany took time to build quality teams which made them successful in clinching U-70, U-20 and senior Fifa world cup respectively,” he stressed.
Prempeh, delving into the technicalities, quizzed, “Which playing style and philosophy are we going to rely on to help our team?”
To him, the technical director of the GFA “must also come up with the right philosophy and direction” while the Association is in search of a new manager for the national team.
“I think Ghanaians are complaining because the GFA has convinced the government to raise a budget of $25m for AFCON and World Cup. The FA knows we did not have a good team to win the AFCON, therefore with the bad performances Ghanaians would obviously complain since they expected the best from the team.”
Nana Prempeh who is also the host of X-Sports profile on TV XYZ went on to charge the FA that the new coach who will be appointed must identify the key areas the team is struggling from, and select the right players who are getting much game time at their respective clubs to improve the squad.
His comment comes on the back of the sacking of Coach C.K Akunnor and his two assistants were sacked in later hours of Monday upon receipt of technical reports from the Head Coach of the Senior National Team and the Black Stars Management Committee following Ghana’s Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.
The Ghana Football Association has tasked a three-member committee to appoint a new head coach within the next 72 hours.
‘The Executive Council has formed a three (3) Member Committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Salifu Zida, and Dr. Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours which Nana Prempeh believes the FA should have their favorite already because 72hours does not look like enough time to scout for the team.
‘The Association wishes C.K Akonnor and his Assistants the very best in their future endeavours the GFA should also be talking to Ghanaians about the kind of project given to CK and what exactly was the reason for his sack.
CK Akunnor managed 11 matches, two draws, four losses, and five wins.
Ghana sits second with three (3) points after the two opening matches and will play Zimbabwe in the next round of games in October 2021.
