PGA Tournament Director lauds Gold Fields for Organizing 2020 championship

Professional Golfers Association of Ghana (PGA) Tournament Director Akwesi Prempeh has lauded Gold Fields for making the 7th Edition of the Gold Fields PGA Championship come off despite the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The 7th edition of the annual PGA Golf Championship teed off  today at the Damang Golf Course in the Western Region.

According to Mr Prempeh, had it not been the love Gold Fields have for golf in Ghana, the tournament would have beenm called off.

“This Is the 7th edition of the Championship and I would like all golfers here to give a very big applause to Gold Fields especially Mr Alfred Baku, Mr. Hans De Beer, Rodger Anamah, the captain Derrick Amoakwa- Mensah and all the managers in Tarkwa and Damang have all done a great job.

“I remember when I approached them about this year’s competition it’s appeared it would not come off but Gold Fields did everything within their powers and here we are today to play the championship,” he said.

He also cautioned all golfers to stick to the rules of the game and stay professional on the course of play.

“Sometimes when the game is getting tough, there’s are decisions which may over take you. I want every golfer to remember that being a professional means you know the rules of the game well so when things are getting tough take it easy and stay professional in your play because that is why you are professional,” Prempeh urged as he wished the golfers well.

32 Ghanaian based professional players consisting of 24 regulars and eight senior players were scheduled start the competition with promising hoping for the best but unfortunately three of the regulars test positive of COVID-19 which reduced the number to 29 in total.
