Suspected armed robbers kill police officer, eyewitness after attacking bullion van

Suspected armed robbers have shot to death, a police officer during an attack on a bullion van at Korle-bu, Monday afternoon at Adedenko market near Korle-bu.

It is alleged the bullion van carrying an unspecified amount of money was trailed by the three armed robbers on two motorbikes.

The armed criminals are said to have fired indiscriminately at the van, belonging to MONTRAN company,  killing the  Police officer identified as Emmanuel Osei on the spot, after bullets went through his head.

TV XYZ News has learned the armed robbers managed to escape with their booty and an AK 47 riffle belonging to the Police officer.

The robbery just around midday at Korle Bu right in the heart of Accra, also involved the death of an onlooker, a middle-aged woman who was close to the scene. She was reportedly pursued for raising an alarm and shot at close range.

The victim, identified as Afua Badu was reportedly found in a pool of blood in a wooden structure where she tried to seek refuge.

Witnesses say another woman however survived the attack and is receiving treatment at the Police Hospital.

The driver of the bullion van who survived is receiving treatment at the Korle – Bu Teaching Hospital. It is yet to be established if the Police have picked any credible lead so far.

Last Wednesday, two armed men on a motorbike broke into a forex bureau close to the Police Headquarters in Osu in broad daylight and bolted with a sum of money.

They managed to escape firing into the air to scare people nearby.
