Teclos begin deactivation of unregistered SIM Cards

Telecom companies in Ghana have officially begun the deactivation of unregistered SIM cards in compliance with directives by the Communications and Digitalization (MoCD).

A statement issued by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications said all telecom companies operating in Ghana, AirtelTigo, MTN and Vodafone reminded the public of the official notice from the sector Ministry dated November 11, 2022, announcing measures to be implemented by operators.

The Chamber said to this effect the companies have since 20th of November 2022 begun blocking data services for all subscribers who have only completed stage 1 (linkage to Ghana Card) but not stage 2 (biometric capture) of the SIM registration process, as directed by the Ministry.

It advised subscribers who have acquired Ghana cards but are yet to complete stage 2 (biometric capture) to do so before November 30, 2022.
