Today could be the saddest day for Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings – Check out why

Today, former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings is celebrating her 72nd birthday.

Her 72nd anniversary, sadly, came at a tough time in the midst of her late husband’s pre-burial activities.

Her birthday takes place barely a week after the death of her husband, Jerry John Rawlings, born on November 17, 1948.

The former president passed away after a brief illness at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on Thursday, November 12.

Mrs. Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings worked as the First Lady of Ghana with him for nearly two decades.

In 1982, she founded the 31 December Women’s Movement, a strong advocate of women’s rights, to emancipate women at all levels of development and enable them to participate and benefit from the country’s socio-economic and political growth.

She became the first lady to run for President of Ghana in 2016. As The Hillary Clinton” of Africa, she was billed. She would have become Ghana’s first female president if she had won in 2016 with her newly founded party.

She will run as the flag bearer of the National Democratic Party (NDP) in Ghana’s December 2020 presidential elections this year.

This will be the third time the group has appointed the former First Lady as its flagbearer.
