US Embassy, XYZ Broadcasting Ltd to strengthen relations

The Press Attaché of the US Embassy in Ghana, Kevin Brosnahan today paid a working visit to XYZ Broadcasting Ltd to familiarize himself with operations and build on the existing relations between the Embassy and the company.

Mr Brosnahan, who has been in Ghana since August last year, was accompanied by Information Assistants including Mrs Joyce Okyere Asiedu.

The discussions centered on press freedom, capacity building and other areas including collaboration and support.

The delegation was received by the Chief Executive Officer, Bernie Anti, Deputy CEO in charge of Operations, Eric Ahianyo, Deputy CEO – Finance and Administration, W.O (rtd.) Joseph Dogbe, the Manager in charge of TV XYZ, Alexander Osei-Aboagye, General Managers for Power FM and Radio XYZ, Mugabe Maase and Agyeman Prempeh.

Other management staff present include Linda Madjitey, Head of Client Service and Kelvin Asante who is in charge of the Technical department.

In brief remark, Mr Brosnahan expressed the commitment of the US Embassy to help promote media freedoms in Ghana through collaboration with relevant stakeholders including the Ghana Journalist Association, Media Foundation for West Africa, the National Media Commission.

He sympathized with XYZ Broadcasting Ltd., which suffered a big blow after the closure of its mother station, Radio XYZ, arrests and prosecution of some staff over comments they made.

 

Mr. Brosnahan observed that press freedom and human rights issues are very dear to the US government. He said through the Department’s budget is tight, the embassy will continue its commitment to help build the capacity of journalists to improve on quality to deepen the media landscape in Ghana.

Deputy CEO in charge of Operations, Eric Ahianyo briefed the US Embassy delegation about the company’s editorial Policy and management’s concern about the safety of staff, who speak truth to power, as a responsibility to ensure good governance.

The CEO, Bernie Anti assured the Embassy that with Radio XYZ (93.1) back on air, XYZ Broadcasting Ltd is now in a passion to streamline programming not only to inform, but entertain and educate the public on issues of national interest.

He said XYZ Broadcasting limited in the past few years has worked hard to earn an enviable record as one of the most influential media platforms in Ghana helping to shape public policy and improve governance.
