[Video] ‘Don’t collapse Ghanaian-owned businesses’ – Mugabe defends McDan

Vociferous broadcaster, Mugabe Maase has jumped to the defense of Daniel McKorley, the CEO of McDan Aviation following the suspension of the latter’s private jet services at Terminal 1 of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).

The development comes after McKorley had launched the business a few days earlier but the airport authorities said there have been operational breaches by McDan Aviation.

“We note with concern your failure to comply with the directive despite the outstanding issues on the prior terms and conditions for the use and operations of Terminal 1 as a Private Jet Terminal. Management has consequently directed the suspension of your use of Terminal 1 until further notice”, a statement from the GACL stated.

A letter the Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) wrote to the Minister of Transport on January 24, 2022 explained that, while McDan Aviation had satisfied all operational requirements to enable it open for business, it was “yet to fulfil its financial obligations to Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL). McDan owes GACL a total of US$4,505,034 and GHS227,293 respectively.”

But on his ‘Gumbe Show’, Mugabe Maase, who is also the General Manager of Power FM bemoaned the act of GACL and explained that the issue could have been solved amicably without suspending the services of McDan Aviation in a capricious manner.

“He is a Ghanaian and does not deserve that treatment. McDan did not just wake up to establish that business at the Airport. If there is a problem, resort to dialogue,” Mugabe stated.
