Host of Battleground on Power 97.9 FM, Oheneba Boamah Bennie, has descended on Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia over Ghana’s failing economy.
Sharing his sentiments on his show on Monday, the firebrand broadcaster blamed the unfulfilled promises of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Dr. Bawumia, claiming he was the one that gave Akufo-Addo a fake outlook of the country’s coffers.
“You Dr. Bawumia, you were the one that told Nana Addo that you have worked at the Bank of Ghana before and there is no way Ghana can be broke. You gave Nana Addo the confidence to make a lot of promises to Ghanaians and now he cannot fulfill them. It is you that has made Nana Addo a failure,” he said.
His comment comes at a time Dr. Bawumia has gone quiet on the country’s economic outlook following the free fall of the cedi and then hikes in the prices of petroleum products that have triggered inflation and hardship in the country.
Oheneba wondered why Bawumia cannot defend his work on stabilizing the country’s economy when he had maligned President John Mahama in the run-up to the 2016 elections and tagged him as incompetent.
“You said the John Mahama that built Tema Port expansion and the Terminal 3 [at KIA] is incompetent, rather you whose achievements have been the construction of toilet facilities is touting competence,” he jibed and quizzed “Why have you not been speaking on the economy?”
“You mocked the economic management team of the NDC but yours can’t be described today. Apart from eating so much in your meetings, come and tell Ghanaians what your economic management team has been able to achieve,” Oheneba dared.
“You Bawumia, you are unintelligent; You are daft and that is why you are hiding as the economy is failing,” he added. “Come out and tell Ghanaians why the economy has collapsed in this manner.”
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has said that calls by a section of Ghanaians on the Vice President to speak to issues about the economy is a tacit manifestation that Ghanaians repose much confidence in the Vice President.
In an interview with Philip Osei Bonsu on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen afternoon show on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, Dr. Gideon Boako emphasized that Ghanaians have confidence or trust in the Vice President.
“O. B, these calls on the Vice President to talk about the economy is a testament to the fact that Ghanaians believe in the Vice President. They know he has what it takes to shape the discussions on the economy and how best to manage the situation we find ourselves in as a result of external factors,” Dr. Boako stated.
