Watch Dr Kwame Nkrumah on Republic Day celebration in 1965

Sixty two (62) years ago today, Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah led Ghana to become a Republic which weaned the country from the rule of monarchs.

This was after the country had gained independence on March 6, 1957.

Ghana has enjoyed the republic status for decades and is ruled by natives who are chosen by the people through elections.

Ghana attained the Republic status on 1st July, 1960.
