Deputy spokesperson of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kwaku Asafo Agyei, has dared President Nana Akufo-Addo to speak on the Serwaa Broni brouhaha.
The maverick spokesman urged the president of Ghana to report the Canada-based Ghanaian who claimed to have had an affair with him to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) like he did to the former GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi after the premiering of the famous #12 corruption scandal.
“President Akufo Addo would have reported Serwaa Broni to the CID or Interpol if the allegations levelled against him were not true,” Asafo Agyei stated on Inside Politics on Power FM.
Earlier, Asafo Agyei had argued on his Facebook page that Akufo-Addo ought to report his alleged former girlfriend to the police foro tarnishing his image.
“When the Anas No 12 exposé came out Prez Akufo Addo quickly reported the matter to the CID of Ghana Police Service because he felt Kwesi Nyantakyi had used his name in manner that brought the office he occupied into disrepute but interestingly he has been quiet and has not taken a similar action against Serwaa Broni,” he said.
He further quizzed, ” ….Is it the case that all the allegations being made by Serwaa Broni is true and that he is afraid the lady could reveal more if he dares her?”
Serwaa Broni born Evelyn Aidoo has got social media talking after she granted an interview to Kevin Taylor on US-based Loud Silence TV about her affair with Ghana’s president.
In the interview on Easter Sunday, Serwaa Broni alleged that President Akufo-Addo sent thugs to torment her after having a sexual intercourse with her.
Narrating how it all happened she said the president abused her through a former national security coordinator at the Kotoka International Airport, Hopeson Adorye, who sent thugs her way when they realised she had naked pictures of Akufo-Addo.
She claimed her phones were seized when the men attacked her and friend she was travelling with when she came to Ghana
Indeed, Serwaa Broni admitted in the interview that she had in her possession Akufo-Addo’s naked pictures and videos and promised to leak them.
Private legal practitioner Alexander Twum-Barimah notes that the way the presidency has been reduced to following the revelations of Serwaa Broni calls for the initiation of an impeachment process against Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with Prince Minkah on Dwaboase on TV XYZ, the lawyer quoted Article 69 (1) (a) and (b) and stressed that the conduct of the president, per the video clips and evidences available and the silence of the presidency on the matter makes Akufo-Addo a candidate of impeachment.
Article 69, he said, defines what will trigger a president’s impeachment, and added that “when the president behaves in a way that disgraces his office, he can be impeached.”
“His seat is the highest office of the land and that is why he swore an oath before Parliament and we know Parliament is a full representation of Ghana,”he added.
Twum-Barimah’s comment comes on the back of a move by the Minority Caucus to probe the matter and possibly begin an impeachment process.
Serwaa Broni’s Security
As the matter is being discussed by some media houses, a deputy national youth organiser of the NDC, Ruth Dela Seddoh has called for protection for Evelyn.
She believes Serwaa Broni’s revelations has endangered her life and has therefore called for activists to fight for the Canada-based Ghanaian woman.
Reacting to what she described as an impending danger towards Serwaa Broni on the Gumbe Show on TV XYZ, the politician quizzed, “where are the feminists and human rights activists?”
Currently, some three persons have also petitioned the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, to take the matter up.
