Winneba: Five injured as Police fire teargas to disperse protesting UEW students

At least five students of the University of Education, Winneba have reportedly sustained injuries after a clash with the Police during a protest today.

The Police were compelled to fire tear gas to disperse the rampaging students demonstrating against discrepancies in their results posted on the University’s notice boards and the online portal have resorted to the use of teargas to disperse some protesting students of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW).

Some of them mainly level 400 students, reportedly disrupted lectures and other administrative duties while others broke sign posts, tree branches and used them to block major roads on campus.

Management of the University had to call in the Police who have managed to restore calm on campus.

The authorities had reportedly scheduled a meeting with the level 400 students in particular, for a discussion on the issue today but their delay triggered the angry reaction and subsequent protest.

UEW-Winneba is about to go on semester break and the students wanted to know their true results before the new semester to resumes.
