Women are divorcing because of enlightenment – Lawyer

Lawyer Frederick Asamoah has revealed that, women being enlightened is a  major cause of high divorce rate in Ghana.

The latest data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census (PHC) have revealed that 553,065 persons in Ghana have had their marriages dissolved while 405,090 have separated.

These figures were obtained through interviews of people during the 2021 PHC which began on June 27 and ended on August 15, 2021.

According to the lawyer, women are being educated now compared to the old days. They know more than they used to.

Hence, they learn about freedom, liberty, constitution.

“Something has happened between our grandmother and now there’s a change. what has happened? Women are now being educated more than those days and we learn freedom, liberty, constitution…I know my right now… they know more than they used to know so those days  that grandma had to stay in her marriage despite the challenges… knowledge has come and it’s a powerful tool and it has come to many women so if the men don’t change to understand that one .. then now the women will go out: formerly, the women didn’t know the way to court but now they do”, he said on my lawyer my counselor show hosted by Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman
