Senior Public Education officer at the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) Joy Debrah, has enunciated that a woman is not a man’s property.
According to Joy, marriage should be based on the grounds of respecting each other, rather than letting your wife feel like she’s your property.
“Marriage is all about respect, partners should respect and live with respect . Your partner is not your property”, she said
Speaking to Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman on “My Lawyer My Counselor” show on TV XYZ the senior public education officer revealed that due to how people were nurtured, men feel they own their wives when they marry them.
“Due to how we were nurtured, a lot of men think a woman becomes their property after marriage or have full control over her.
She clarified wedding money can’t buy a woman, if human beings were to be for sale.
Hence, women shouldn’t hesitate to report their abusive husbands to CHRAJ.
“If human beings were sold wedding money can’t buy them report any married man who’s abusive“, she stressed.
