Lions don’t eat lions but the host of Dwaboase on TV XYZ, Prince Kwame Minkah, has gone for the jugular of Metro Tv presenter and Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), Paul Adom-Otchere over the cost Christmas decorations at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA).
Adom-Otchere who is the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has come under fire for the price of the Christmas decorations mainly because an invoice that is circulating on social media bears the name of the broadcaster as the one that procured the Christmas trees.
The vociferous television host is said to have spent about GH₵128,366 on Christmas decorations. Out of the GH₵128,366 that was spent on the Christmas inspirations at Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, only GH₵78,366 came from the coffers of the GACL.
Defending his action, Adom-Otchere said that GH₵50,000 cash sponsorship package was received from an advertising company and not from the offers of the state.
Prince Minkah who tackled the host of Good Evening Ghana for failing to protect the public purse noted that “as a journalist, you have to set a good example.”
“I am a journalist and that is why I am interested in the matter. If care is not taken, Paul’s conduct will block the opportunity of other good people… When the Board Chairman of the Ghana Airports Company Limited was defending himself, he compared his transactions to the NDC’s and blamed them yet he did not provide an invoice to buttress his point,” Minkah criticised.
“How do you justify this?” he quizzed and wondered why a Board Chairman of the GACL would abandon corporate governance and take over the procurement of Christmas inspirations.
Meanwhile, Kwabena Oti Bless, MP for Nkwanta North and a member of the Transport Committee in Parliament disagrees with Paul Adom-Otchere.
The MP has asked for his removal from office as the Board Chairman of the GACL.
Speaking to Daakyehene Ofosu Agyeman on Power FM News on Wednesday, the MP stated that Paul erred by saying the donation was not stated money.
“Any funds donated to any state institution such as the Ghana Airport Company Limited automatically become public funds. The Public Financial Management ACT 206 (ACT 921) section 102 defines clearly what public fund is; public funds include donations. Paul Adom-Otchere says he has studied law but perhaps he did not pass his exam to graduate that is why he is beating about the bush on this matter,” Oti Bless noted.
“If the president who vowed to fight corruption head-on and touted he is incorruptible were serious he would have sacked Paul Adom-Otchere long time,” he added.
The MP called on the government to sack Adom-Otchere for allegedly misappropriating state funds.
Paul Adom-Otchere who has been responding to concerns about corporate governance at the GACL which related to why his name was on an invoice said his name was on it because he had personally requested to see the invoices to ensure that there was value for money.
“This is the explanation. This is just an invoice and I’m happy to report that this invoice was not used. We didn’t obey this invoice, we didn’t use this invoice…,” he said.
