Host of ‘Abranaa So’ on TV XYZ, Okatakyie Kwame Afrifa-Mensah has descended heavily on President Akufo-Addo over his reply to the Chief of Aflao.
The Chief, Torgbui Fiti V, had demanded from government for a community day senior high school (E-block) which was commenced by the erstwhile Mahama administration to be completed within 4 months to give his people access to a secondary education.
But President Akufo-Addo who was not enthused about the ultimatum asked the chief to complete the project if frustrated.
“Is he the one to give the Minister of Education an ultimatum?… He should go and complete it then,” Akufo-Addo told Kokrokoo host Kwame Sefa Kayi Thursday.
The comment has attracted a backlash from some Ghanaians, particularly Members of Parliament from the area, including Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, MP for North Tongu and Abla Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South.
The duo have demanded an apology from Akufo-Addo via various media interviews.
However, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, a disappointed member of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) took a swipe at the president.
After showing excerpts of the interview, Okatakyie, who indicated that he had defended president Akufo-Addo prior to the 2016 elections, could not hide his disappointment in his former icon.
“President Akufo-Addo, before you cane to power some of us defended you when people said you were arrogant. On Facebook and elsewhere we said you were rather confident and that people had misconstrue that,” Okatakyie affectionately called ‘the youth president’ said on his show Saturday.
” Today, your actions show that you are truly arrogant,” the vociferous show host jabbed.
He wondered whether the president could have given such a ” disrespectful reply” to his paramount chief, the Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panyin or any of the chiefs of Ashanti.
To him, the president has been rude to some Ghanaians, including the chief of Aflao, because of their tribal background.
” I am not being tribalistic but I have to tell you people the truth… Even me, an Oyokohene ( sub Chief) of Asante Agona can’t be disrespected by the president like this, ” Okatakyie argued while flaying the president for the comment.
He also jabbed Kwame Sefa Kayi for failing to put the president on the right path when he spoke harshly to the chief.
” Kwame Sefa Kayi is from the area but was laughing when the president insulted his chief, ” he said while expressing his disappointment in the experienced broadcaster.
