Host of Inside Politics on Power 97.9 FM, Mugabe Maase, has questioned the rationale behind President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to hire luxurious aircraft for his foreign trips when there is hardship in the country.
On his programme on Wednesday, the firebrand broadcaster said, ” you are very wicked; you don’t think about Ghanaians. You are so insensitive to the plights of Ghanaians.”
“You think we are fools. You have taken the country’s presidential jet and given it to Liberian President Oppong Weah and turn around to milk the suffering Ghanaians dry with your flashy trips that cost the taxpayer so much,” he fumed and slammed CSOs and other watchdog organisations that have gone quiet over the current bad happenings in the country.
Mugabe’s outbursts come on the back of a revelation from North Tongu MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, that the Government of Ghana spent US $14,000 per hour in the skies for the president’s trips recently.
Ablakwa says he will file another urgent question in Parliament to demand full disclosure on the cost of the President’s foreign travels.
The Ranking Member on Foreign Affairs Committee has alleged that President Akufo-Addo’s three recent foreign trips cost the taxpayer a whopping GH₵10 million.
Mr. Ablakwa in his latest statement, is accusing the President of chartering a luxurious jet costing the taxpayer GH₵3.7 million for his current trip to the United States last week.
To him, “the fundamental objection to this chartering of luxurious aircraft is that we have a functioning Presidential jet. It is in a pristine state, it has not gotten to the end of its lifespan.”
