One person has been confirmed dead and 37 others injured following a fatal road traffic accident at Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Suhum Municipality of the Eastern Region.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 11, 2026, involving a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck, registration number GW 3969-U.
Both vehicles were reportedly in motion at the time of the collision.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), 21 males and 16 females sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the occupants of the truck escaped unhurt.
The Suhum Municipal Fire Station received a distress call at 6:59 a.m., and a rescue team led by Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) II Bernard Boamah arrived at the scene eight minutes later.

Fire officers extricated the deceased from the wreckage, assisted injured victims, some of whom had already been transported to the Suhum Government Hospital, cleared debris from the road, restored traffic flow, and ensured the safety of other road users.
The crash caused extensive damage to the front section of the bus, while the truck sustained minor damage at the rear.
Eyewitnesses alleged that the bus was speeding before crashing into the truck.
The rescue operation was concluded at 8:57 a.m., with the team returning to base at 9:52 a.m.
The GNFS said the response underscores its commitment to swift and professional emergency services.
