Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has criticised the pitch at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno, describing it as “like concrete” ahead of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad on Thursday, September 4.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Addo warned that the AstroTurf surface posed serious risks to players.
“I’m really surprised that they have allowed this pitch for an international match. The pitch is really, really not good. It’s very hard for the players, it’s like playing on concrete. But what can we do? We have to take it as it comes, and we are prepared,” he said.
The coach noted that while safer and more modern artificial pitches exist, the N’Djamena surface falls well below international standards.
Ghana, currently leading Group I, will be looking to extend its advantage in the qualifiers as the team pursues a fifth World Cup appearance.
The match kicks off at 1 p.m. local time.
