Ablekuma Central MCE cuts sod for multiple projects; pushes for use of local labour

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ablekuma Central, Frank Nkansah, has strongly advocated for the employment of skilled youth within the municipality as contractors commence several major infrastructural projects.

Speaking during sod-cutting ceremonies and the official handover of sites for the construction of new facilities, Mr. Nkansah urged contractors to prioritise labour recruitment from the immediate communities where the projects are located.

“We have already discussed with the contractor to look for labourers in the immediate environment of the respective projects. We believe that Ablekuma Central Municipality has enough skilled labour the contractors could leverage,” he emphasised.

According to the MCE, the use of local labour will enhance community ownership, strengthen public support, and ensure that local residents directly benefit from the development initiatives.

He tasked assembly members to identify capable young people within their electoral areas who could contribute meaningfully to the successful execution of the projects.

The projects span major community upgrades, including a new three-storey market complex at Shukura, a two-storey six-unit classroom block for New Abossey Okai Basic School, and a three-storey maternity, dentistry, eye and administration block for the Laterbiokorshie Polyclinic.

They also cover renovation of a 12-unit classroom block at the Salvation Army School, the drilling and mechanisation of 22 boreholes, and the construction of a modern astro turf with supporting facilities.

Mr. Nkansah described these interventions as a testament to the NDC administration’s commitment to equitable distribution of infrastructure to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

He appealed to community leaders to support the assembly in ensuring timely and smooth execution of the projects.

Acknowledging concerns regarding limited consultation in the planning stages, the MCE pleaded for understanding, noting that certain circumstances prevented broader stakeholder engagement.

He reassured residents that the projects were designed solely for the benefit of the municipality.

“We are in a hurry to ensure Ablekuma Central develops,” he said.

Mr. Nkansah also disclosed that all funds required for the completion of the projects have been released by the Government of Ghana through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF).

He urged contractors to adhere strictly to timelines and deliver quality work.
