ADB rolls out 24-hour banking service at Tema port to support 24-hour economy drive

The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) PLC has introduced 24-hour banking services at the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) in Tema to support the governments newly launched 24-hour economy initiative.

The move is aimed at ensuring round-the-clock payment of GPHA handling charges, while easing port operations for importers, exporters, freight forwarders, customs agents, and other key stakeholders.

Speaking at the rollout, Managing Director of ADB, Edward Ato Sarpong, described the service as a practical step toward enhancing productivity and operational efficiency at Ghana’s busiest port.

“The 24-hour economy is not just about staying open longer, it’s about creating added value, decent jobs, and a more efficient logistics ecosystem,” he said.

He explained that ADB’s 24-hour port service allows customers to make payments at any hour, helping them meet time-sensitive deadlines and avoid costly delays.

According to Mr. Sarpong, the service is especially beneficial to freight forwarders, clearing agents, shipping companies, logistics operators, as well as importers, exporters, and traders.

“By offering 24-hour access to financial services at the port, ADB is facilitating smoother trade flows and supporting government’s effort to make Ghana a competitive hub for commerce,” he added.

The ADB MD revealed that the Bank is working to extend 24-hour services to other strategic locations nationwide as part of a broader effort to support economic transformation and expand access to financial services.

The initiative aligns with ADB’s new brand positioning, “Beyond Banking”, which Mr. Sarpong said reflects the bank’s commitment to innovative, customer-focused solutions across key sectors of the economy.

He encouraged businesses and individuals operating at Tema Port to leverage the 24-hour banking service to streamline operations and improve turnaround times.

“We are inviting all our clients and the general public to take full advantage of this service to facilitate payments and drive their business growth,” he said.
