Agongo condemns attack on Class Media Group journalist, calls for swift investigation

The Chief Executive Officer of Class Media Group, Alhaji Seidu Agongo, has strongly condemned the reported assault on a journalist of the media organisation by personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service.

In a statement issued on Monday, January 5, 2026, Alhaji Agongo described the incident as deeply troubling, noting that attacks on journalists pose a serious threat to press freedom and the safety of media practitioners in Ghana.

According to him, such actions not only undermine the fundamental rights of journalists but also tarnish Ghana’s reputation as a country committed to the protection of media freedom and democratic values.

He called on the appropriate state institutions to immediately institute a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident, stressing the need for accountability where wrongdoing is established.

Alhaji Agongo emphasized that the journalist was lawfully carrying out his professional duties at the time of the attack and appealed for the full cooperation of all parties involved to ensure the safety and protection of media practitioners.

Class Media Group, he reaffirmed, remains committed to upholding the highest standards of responsible journalism and urged the public to remain calm as the matter is addressed by the relevant authorities.
