Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) and National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has responded to a summons from the Chief of Staff following a viral video showing him handing over U.S. dollar notes to evangelist Nana Agradaa.
The incident, which has sparked widespread public criticism, led to Mr. Gyamfi being summoned to the Presidency on Monday, May 12, 2025.
Eyewitnesses report that he left the meeting in a sober mood, indicating the seriousness of the discussions that were held in the office of the Chief of Staff.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 11, Mr. Gyamfi described the cash handover as a private act of kindness, stating
“I sincerely thought that I was doing this act of kindness in private and never imagined that same could find its way into the public space. That is unfortunate and regrettable.”
The Presidency has not released an official statement regarding the outcome of the meeting.
However, sources indicate that the matter is being treated with urgency due to its potential political implications.
This comes after the recent launch of President John Mahama’s Code of Conduct for Public Officials, which emphasizes integrity and accountability in public service.
The incident continues to generate public discourse, with various stakeholders calling for appropriate actions to uphold the standards expected of public officeholders.
Meanwhile, some top government officials have been defending Gyamfi, describing him as a hardworking party official whose works contributed to the victory of the NDC.
