Agric Minister Eric Opoku storms Kumasi ahead of ‘Nkoko nkitinkiti’ launch

The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Mr Eric Opoku, earlier today called on the Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene at the latter’s office.

The Minister visited the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) on a working visit to the region ahead of the launch of a special national poultry programme also known as ‘Nkoko Nkitinkiti’.

In a statement, Dr Amoakohene emphasised their discussions focused on strengthening the agricultural value chain in the region.

“Agriculture remains one of the most robust sectors of our local economy, providing livelihoods, ensuring food security, and sustaining rural development,” he said pointing to the need for the sector to be turned around to create wealth.

Amoakohene also noted the duo “examined critical challenges such as post-harvest losses and limited agro-processing capacity, which continue to constrain growth in the sector.”

The regional minister said they also explored strategic interventions to enhance value addition, improve storage systems, and attract investment into agro-industrial processing.

He noted “As Government prepares to roll out the flagship “Nkokonkitinkiti” Support Programme for the poultry industry, I wish to express profound appreciation to H.E. the President John Dramani Mahama for his visionary leadership and continued support to the agricultural sector.”

He stated the  foresight of the President is driving the transformation of Ghana’s food systems and empowering local farmers across the country.

To him, the Ashanti Region “stands fully prepared to harness the full benefits of this initiative” adding it has positioned itself as a national hub for agribusiness, poultry production, and agro-processing innovation.
