Albert Dwumfour re-elected GJA President as five new executives join leadership

Albert Kwabena Dwumfour has been re-elected President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), securing 445 votes (64.5%) in elections held on June 30.

His opponent, Charles Yao Mawusi, garnered 245 votes.

The polls also ushered in five new executives:

  • Rebecca Ekpe (GBC) as Vice President
  • Dominic Hlordzi (GBC) as General Secretary
  • Suleiman Mustapha (Graphic Business) as Organising Secretary
  • Zadok Kwame Gyesi (Graphic Online) as Public Affairs Director
  • Bertha Badu Agyei (GNA) as Treasurer

Roughly 800 accredited journalists participated in what Dwumfour described as the “smoothest ever” GJA election process.

As he begins his second term, Dwumfour has outlined a five-point agenda focused on improved working conditions, welfare packages, professional development, regional capacity building, and defending press freedom.

His re-election signals both continuity and reform, with the incoming team expected to drive new energy into the association’s leadership.
