A unique initiative has brought together children, patients, and the public to raise awareness about Parkinson’s disease through art.
Dr. Vida Obese, a neurologist at Komfo Anokye Hospital and the president of the “Anidaso Parkinson Disease Foundation” explained that the project aims to create a community of advocates and provide therapy for patients.
The event showcased the creative talents of both patients and students, highlighting the benefits of art in promoting understanding and support. Dr. Obese emphasized the need for a national policy on
Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions, as well as inclusion of Parkinson’s medications in health insurance coverage.
The initiative has received positive feedback, with participants discovering new artistic abilities and expressing enthusiasm for continued involvement. Dr. Obese hopes that this effort will contribute to increased awareness and support for those affected by Parkinson’s disease.
Sharon Dede Padi, well known as “Padikie” an artist, who was also at the event praised the initiative, highlighting the impact of visual arts in conveying messages about Parkinson’s.
Padi believes that these artworks can educate people about Parkinson’s disease and its effects, making it a valuable tool for awareness and understanding.
The initiative demonstrates the potential of art to promote empathy and support for those living with Parkinson’s, while also inspiring others to learn more about the condition.
